About the Vineyard
The vineyard which produces Coppin Grove Wines was established in 1998 on land that had previously been used for market gardens. It is located on the banks of the Yarra River in Hawthorn and is a mere four kilometres from the CBD of Melbourne.
1000 Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes have been planted as well as an experimental section of Nebbiolo.
The vines are trellised using the Scott-Henry system to maximize yield and enhance ripening and are pruned using canes and two bud spurs. The vines are carefully hand tended during the growing season with some summer pruning occurring before netting in early January. Our fruit is hand picked in February when sugar levels have reached optimum levels for the production of sparkling wine. The vines are then left to rest before pruning starts in early June. The vineyard has not been irrigated but relies on natural rainfall in order to concentrate sugar levels and intensify flavour.
Our main product is Coppin Grove Sparkling made from Pinot Noir and Chardonnay grapes by the wine makers at Cope-Williams at Romsey. A dessert wine, Willow Grove, is also produced together with small quantities of Nebbiolo.
Coppin Grove Wines is an entirely family operated enterprise which produces excellent quality fruit which results in outstanding wines.
